Registered Nurse (Psychiatric) – Job Description

A Psychiatric RN provides specialized nursing care to patients experiencing mental health disorders. They assess, monitor, and support patients through treatment plans, ensuring both physical and emotional well-being in psychiatric settings such as hospitals, clinics, or community facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Conduct Mental Health Assessments

   • Evaluate patients’ mental status and document symptoms, behaviors, and progress.

2. Develop and Implement Care Plans

   • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create individualized treatment plans.

3. Administer Medications and Treatments

   • Safely give psychotropic medications and monitor for side effects or reactions.

4. Provide Therapeutic Support and Counseling

   • Offer emotional support, crisis intervention, and patient education.

5. Monitor Patient Safety

   • Ensure a safe environment by assessing risk factors and preventing self-harm or harm to others.

6. Maintain Accurate Documentation

   • Record patient data, treatment outcomes, and incidents in compliance with legal and clinical standards.

7. Collaborate with Healthcare Team

   • Communicate effectively with psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and family members.
